Halo — Smart Lamp, Ref. 7-G

Halo began as a service object — a ring light bolted to the ceiling of a broadcast room in a building that no longer stands. We kept the ring, lost the ceiling, and gave it a column to stand on.

The diffuser is smoked borosilicate, thick enough to take the edge off the source without turning it into a soft blur. The light it throws is motivated: it reads as though something in the room is switched on, not as though a room was lit for a photograph.

There is a single control — a knurled steel collar at the base. Turn it and the ring warms from a late-shift white down to the amber of a machine idling. There is no app, no scene, no assistant. Smart, here, means it remembers where you left it.
